Indexed, double-sided map, combining the whole of southern Argentina and Chile with more detailed mapping of the southern tip of the continent, Tierra del Fuego and the surrounding islands. Coverage of Patagonia and the adjoining part of Chile extends southwards from Bahía Blanca and the road connecting it with the Andes and Temuco. The map shows the road and rail networks, local airports and airfields, as well as the ferry routes across the Chilean fjords. Selected campsites and places of interest are indicated, including active volcanoes. Local administrative boundaries are shown with names of the provinces. National parks are marked and listed in a separate panel which also provides explanations of various abbreviations used for protected areas. Relief is shown by altitude colouring and spot heights, although the very narrow range of the colours used hardly does justice to the Andes! The map includes the Falkland Islands, plus the Robinson Crusoe Island as an inset. It has an index of localities and a latitude/longitude grid drawn at intervals of 1º. Brief descriptions provide information on the area’s history and landscape.
On the reverse is a more detailed map of the southern tip of the continent, from Río Gallegos and Puerto Natales southwards. Brighter colouring provides very good indication of the terrain. Roads, railway and ferry lines, airfields, and administrative boundaries are shown, with national parks, places of interest, selected hotels and campsites, etc. highlighted. The map has an index and a latitude/longitude grid at 30’ and 1º respectively. Also included is a street plan of Ushuaia indicating main facilities, including accommodation, petrol supplies, etc.
