One of the titles in a series of tourist maps covering a selection of France’s administrative departments, produced by the Institut Géographique National in collaboration with the local authorities to highlight different types of accommodation, centres of local produce and handicraft, places of interest, various leisure and sport facilities, as well as local footpaths, the GR routes, etc. Each map has the same number as the department, corresponding to the first two digits of its postal code. Cartography and tourist overprint vary - please see individual entries for more detailed descriptions and samples of cartography.
On this map: an overview of the department which stretches from the beaches of the Bay of Biscay to the high Pyrenees. Relief shading with numerous spot heights and peak names shows the topography. Interesting towns and villages are highlighted, with a wide range of symbols indicating numerous sport and recreational facilities, wine growing areas, heritage sites, etc. GR routes and recommended horse riding trails are marked. The areas outsides the boundaries of the department and in Spain are printed in faded colours, with road network and place names less prominent. The map has no geographical coordinates. Map legend includes English. The last edition of this map was published in 1992.
