One of the maps in the hiking edition of the 1:50,000 topographic survey of Switzerland, which is published in cooperation with the Fédération Suisse de Tourisme Pédestre on 57 standard size sheets (Nos. 213T - 469T) and 3 special larger maps centred on popular tourist destinations (Nos. 5025T - 5028T). The maps have an overprint highlighting routes maintained by the organization, distinguishing between hiking routes, mountain routes requiring proper footwear, and alpine routes where equipment is needed. The maps also show roads with bus service and the positions of bus stops, as well as mountain huts and refuges.
Swiss survey maps are highly regarded for their superb use of graphic relief and hill shading, presenting an almost 3-D picture of Switzerland's mountainous terrain. Both formats have contours at 20-metres intervals and an overprint showing the Swiss national grid coordinates. The standard sheets also include margin ticks showing latitude and longitude in steps of 5'. Each map covers an area of approximately 35 x 24 km / 21 x 15 miles or 50 x 35 km / 31 x 22 miles on the larger sheets. Several of the standard sheets near the country’s borders have on the reverse an extension of the map covering the adjoining areas within Switzerland (e.g. map 282T includes the Swiss territory covered on map 292, as shown on our series grid).
Map legend in French, German, and Italian refers only to the overprint. A separate leaflet, in English, can be provided with full explanation of symbols used on the Swiss topographic survey maps. On the reverse the hiking maps have general information on waymarking, emergency procedures, etc., with some sheets also listing recommended routes. In more recent editions English is included.
