The Atlas Mountains of Morocco offer an incredible variety of scenery, climate and terrain, where the Berbers' way of life has changed little in a thousand years. There are also opportunities to walk and climb throughout the year, making it a particularly desirable destination for the outdoor enthusiast.
The best time to trek in the Atlas Mountains is probably late Spring, although for the very tough (who don't mind it hot) other times of the year are possible. Ramadan will obviously affect supplies and support. Walking difficulties range from tough and wild trekking to scrambling. Also high (Toubkal is 4167m). There is plenty of support in the main areas but the skills of independent travel in high mountains are essential in quieter regions.

This excellent guide covers mainly the three regions of Toubkal, Mgoun Massif and Jebel Sahro, but has a separate chapter on other areas for walking in Morocco to less-well known areas such as the Dades Gorges. There are both route descriptions and background advice for the walker, including a useful introduction providing all practical advices to visit Morocco, like sections on climate, Berber culture, history and wildlife.

The appendix provides useful addresses, a bibliography, a glossary and information on the traverses and ski-touring possibilities in the region. Includes both colour and black and white photographs, plus some route diagrams.
