This book unveils a lesser known part of the history of exploration of the Antarctic continent. Three members of the Scottish expedition led by William Speirs Bruce in 1902, RN Rudmose Brown, JH Pirie and RC Mossman, recount the two-years' exploration on the Scotia.

Surrounded by pack-ice and cut off from the outside world, Bruce and his team carried out pioneering research into the Continent's botany, biology, geology and meteorology and survived unimaginably harsh weather conditions.

They returned heroes to the Clyde but soon their successful expedition was eclipsed in the public imagination by the tragedy of Scott's doomed trek.
