A series of large-format, impressively detailed, paperback road atlases each covering a whole USA state and showing the topography and recreation features. The mapping scale and exact cartographic appearance varies between titles, but the level of detail surpasses most state road maps available. Contours show the relief, often augmented by hill-shading, and colours distinguish land use/terrain variations, eg. cultivation, Indian reservations, military reservations, wetlands and woodland. Road detail includes minor routes and some dirt roads, and also names many roads. The inclusion of railways is a notable feature, and ferries are also marked. County boundaries are shown, also various protected areas, and in some titles areas of state or federally owned land are distinguished. In some titles there is larger scale mapping included of selected important urban areas.

Symbols show additional features eg. airports, information centres, hospitals, points of interest and a variety of recreation features such as campgrounds, boat ramps, historic sites, hunting, fishing and wildlife viewing areas. Most of the atlases are GPS compatible, with latitude and longitude grid lines at 5 to 10 minute intervals (marked in both the conventional and decimal form), however this can vary according to the scale. The mapping is complemented by gazetteer pages giving information about the state's attractions, eg. state/national parks, historic sites, scenic drives and recreational activities such as wildlife viewing, hiking, boating, camping and fishing. The index includes geographical features as well as place names.
