The author, Guy Hunter-Watts, has lived near Ronda for 12 years and divides his time between working as a walking guide and researching travel guides.
In this guide he focuses on walks in six of the twenty Natural Parks of Southern Spain: Sierra de Aracena y Los Picos de Aroche, Grazalema Natural Park, Los Alcornocales NP and the Gaucín area, La Axarquía, the Alpujarras and the Parque Natural de Cazorla, Segura and La Villas. The intent of the author is also to lead the visitor to the most attractive villages of Andalusia so the walks either link two villages or are circular. The villages the author introduces us to offer excellent places to stay and eat.
Each walk is described in detail. Colour photos complement text. The itinerary is highlighted on a section of the relevant Spanish Military Survey 1:50,000 scale sheet. The reference number of the needed map is given with distance in kilometres, average time required, level of difficulty in a box at the beginning of the description of each walk.
A chapter at the beginning focuses on practical information, from equipment to best time to go, from knowing which signs need paying attention to (Ganado Bravo for example!)to a bibliography of Field Guides and books on wildflowers.
