Please read these conditions carefully before using Stanfords website. By using Stanfords website, you signify your agreement to be bound by these conditions.


Items that are marked as "in stock" will usually be shipped within 48 hours of us receiving your order and often on the same or next working day. It is not always possible for us to guarantee that "in stock" items will actually be in stock at all times. If this is the case, a member of our customer service team will contact you to let you know as soon as possible. They will offer options and suggest alternatives and await your instructions before proceeding with the order.

Many of the items we stock are highly specialist and are imported from around the world. This is why it can sometimes take time for us to obtain the specific product you need. If this is the case one of our customer services team will contact you to offer options and suggest alternatives and await your instruction before proceeding with the order. Whilst we endeavour to ensure items are obtained within a timely manner, we cannot always guarantee that our suppliers will be able to deliver to us within our desired time scale. We intend that the price of the goods shall be the price listed on our website on the date of your order, inclusive of any VAT which may be payable by you, but we reserve the right to make changes as we see fit. Once we have accepted the order the price is fixed and will not vary except in the case of manifest error in which case we reserve the right to cancel the order. All prices displayed on the website are quoted in UK Pounds Sterling and must be paid in full, including delivery charges. The customer and not Stanfords is responsible for any applicable customs duties or taxes in their own country.

Company Discounts

Website discount offers are valid only on the Stanfords website. Discounts only available to members or customers of the participating companies. Different offers may apply in-store. Account and company discounts are not valid in conjunction with any other offers. Discount vouchers or codes do not have any monetary value, and discount cannot be applied to the purchase of print-on-demand products, Stanfords gift vouchers, National Book Tokens, and postage stamps. We reserve the right to withdraw offers or special discounts at our discretion.


We shall acknowledge receipt of each order by email and subsequently confirm acceptance of the order in a later email, such acceptance shall establish the contract between us. We will treat each order for goods, which is confirmed when you click on the ‘Agree & Submit’ button on the Confirmation screen, as an offer by you to purchase the goods and services subject to these terms and conditions. We shall supply you, subject to availability, with the quantity and specification of goods set out in your order.

We only accept your offer, and conclude the contract of sale for a product ordered by you, when we dispatch the product and send e-mail confirmation If your order is dispatched in more than one package, you may receive a separate dispatch confirmation e-mail for each package, in which case each dispatch and corresponding dispatch confirmation e-mail will conclude a separate contract of sale between us for the product(s) specified in that e-mail. You can cancel your order for a product at no cost at any time before we dispatch the product you have ordered.

Payment may be made by any of the methods indicated on our website. Goods will not be shipped unless payment is received in full. Your card details are passed to the Commidea Payment Interface for processing.

Stanfords Delivery Options and Charges

Orders for items in stock are usually shipped within 48 hours of receipt of order.

Delivery times and charges depend on the delivery options below but may vary in the run-up to Christmas. We will advertise Last Order Dates for delivery before Christmas on our website. Stanfords uses its best endeavours to deliver within stated target times but will not accept any liability for indirect or consequential loss as a result of delays in despatch or delivery or failure to deliver goods. Compensation for failure to deliver will be limited to the price paid for the goods and for their delivery and any compensation for delay shall be decided entirely at Stanfords discretion.

Within the UK (Great Britain and Northern Ireland)

    For deliveries within the UK our shopping basket defaults to our standard service: Royal Mail Second Class Post(unless the weight or size of the items ordered is more than the maximums allowed – see Note below).

    Delivery time is approximately two-three days (this could be a little longer in holiday seasons).

    The Postage and Packing charge is calculated automatically in the shopping basket on the basis of the individual weights of the items ordered, in line with Royal Mail’s new ‘pricing in proportion’ charging structure.

    Note - orders that exceed maximum weight or sizes:
    • If the total weight of the items in your order exceeds 1.5kg, then we will automatically despatch the order by UPS delivery because this is the most cost effective method (see below).
    • If the dimension of any one of the items in your order exceeds 36 inches (91cm), the maximum allowed by Royal Mail First Class Post, then we will automatically despatch the order by UPS delivery (see below).
  • UPS Standard Delivery (overnight to most UK locations)

    On the Delivery screen when you proceed to the checkout you may select UPS Standard Delivery if you wish to receive your order on the next working day.

    We need to receive your order before 2pm Mondays – Thursdays to ensure next-day delivery. Please note, next-day service applies only on weekdays. UPS orders placed after 2pm on Thursdays, and during Fridays will be delivered on the Monday. Orders placed during weekends and during bank holidays will be processed on the next working day and delivered the day after that.

    UPS delivers Monday to Friday between 9am and 6pm. A signature will be required, so please ensure that you provide an address where someone is available to receive delivery. After we have dispatched your order we can provide a UPS tracking number on request, and you can check progress of your delivery at www.ups.com.

    Please note: UPS will deliver next day to most UK towns. Delivery to locations within Northern Ireland requires 48 hours. Delivery to remote locations may also require additional time, usually within 48 hours. UPS will contact you for directions if necessary.

Channel Islands

Standard orders dispatched to the Channel Islands will be delivered by Royal Mail Second Class Post at the same rates as the UK.

If the total weight of the items in your order exceeds 1.5kg, or the dimension of any one of the items in your order exceeds 36 inches (91cm), then we will despatch your order to the Channel Islands via UPS delivery. A flat fee of £45 is chargeable for UPS deliveries to the Channel Islands.

Europe and Worldwide

The options and charges for overseas deliveries will be displayed when you select an international delivery address on the Delivery screen after you proceed to checkout.

The delivery options and charges are described below:

  • Standard Service – Royal Mail Air Mail

    For delivery to Europe and the rest of the world we dispatch all standard orders via Royal Mail Air Mail post.

    Delivery time depends on local service and international freight conditions, Royal Mail states that 21-28 days must elapse before they will consider any items lost in the post. We will replace all items lost in transit after 21 days have passed.

  • The international postage and packing charge calculated in the shopping basket is based on the total of the individual weights of the items ordered as well as the delivery destination.

    If the total weight of the items in your order exceeds 1.5kg, or the dimension of any one of the items in your order exceeds 36 inches (91cm), then we will despatch your order via UPS couriers.

Stanfords Return Policy

Stanfords will accept back all goods that have been purchased from us and that are returned in good condition within 14 days of your receipt of them. Stanfords will also accept back all goods that are faulty (Faulty goods must be reported to Stanfords within 48 hours of goods being delivered. Faulty goods reported after this period will be addressed at our discretion.) or that are deemed by you to be not of satisfactory quality, not fit for their purpose or not matching their description, regardless of whether the product has been used or not.

We will reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the cost of delivery (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us) .

You may be liable if the value of the goods returned diminishes due to the handling of the goods (except when it was necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods). In such cases we may make a deduction from the reimbursement for the loss in value of the goods.

We will not reimburse the cost of returning goods unless;

  • they are faulty and have been reported to us as such within 48 hours of their delivery; and
  • the manner of return has been agreed with us before despatch

If you have bought a product online and would like to return it, you may do so at any of our stores. Alternatively, you can return the goods to us at the address below:

  • We will make reimbursement without undue delay and not later than;
  • 14 days after the day we receive back from you any goods we have supplied, or
  • (if earlier) 14 days after the day you provide evidence that you have returned the goods, or
  • If there were no goods supplied, 14 days after the day we were informed that you decided to cancel this contract.

We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event you will not incur any fees as a result of the reimbursement.

These guarantees are in addition to your statutory rights, which remain unaffected.

Right to Cancel

Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, you have a right to cancel your order for any item purchased on this website for a full refund within 14 days without giving any reason. The cancellation period will expire 14 days from the day on which you acquire or a third party, other than the carrier and indicated by you acquires physical possession of the goods.

Your right to cancel does not apply to items that have been used or fitted by you. In addition the right to cancel does not apply to software that has been opened or unsealed. You must take reasonable care of the goods while they are in your possession.

Damaged or Defective Goods

If in the unlikely event your goods arrive in a damaged condition or are defective, you must report this within 48 hours of goods being delivered, stating the invoice number and the nature of the defect or shortage. Failure to do so will deem that you have accepted the goods.

If for any reason a replacement is not available for a damaged or defective item then Stanfords will refund the value of the returned goods to the original payment method.

Stanfords' Contract with You

No contract shall exist between you and Stanfords until Stanfords has sent you an email confirming both receipt and acceptance of your order. Stanfords is entitled to withdraw from any contract in the case of obvious errors or inaccuracies regarding the goods or the order appearing on Stanfords' site.

Governing Law

The contract between us shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with English law, and the English courts shall have jurisdiction to resolve any disputes between us.

Invalidity of Terms and Conditions

If for any reason part of these terms and conditions is unenforceable, the validity of the remaining terms and conditions shall not be affected.
