A campaign to promote geography hosted a film competition and the top prize was no less than a magnificent globe from Stanfords.
The 'Our World Film Festival', organised by Give Geography its Place (GGiP), took place at the Geographical Association's annual conference in March. The festival began with a film-making competition, adopting the conference's theme of sustainability, with three categories open to pupils, teachers and the public.
‘Do you really know where you live?’ was open to year nine students (aged 13-14) and Hafsa and Ladi from Southgate School won with their ‘Wildlife in Our Area’ project.
Abigail Woodman from GGiP said: “Their film focused on a piece of wasteland near their school that they turned into an oasis of biodiversity, and showed that they were conscious of their environment and the steps they could take to improve it.”
Hafsa and Ladi were at the festival to collect their prestigious prize of the Madison political world globe from Stanfords, along with fellow competition entrants Demitri and Alex (all pictured above).
GGiP is a grass-roots campaign to promote geography and geographical thinking. Find out more on their website: www.ggip.co.uk.
