The main map, covering Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi, provides an overview of the region’s road network, grading main and minor roads into tarred and untarred, and showing selected local tracks. Driving distances are given on main routes and locations of border crossings and entry gates to national parks and reserves are indicated. Railway connections are also marked (although not included in the map legend) as well as local airfields.

Topography is indicated only by the regions’ main peaks plus lakes and rivers, both perennial and seasonal. In eastern Kenya, what appears to be numerous wells are also marked (not identified in the legend). National parks and game reserved are prominently highlighted, with symbols marking locations of various other places of interest. The map has margin ticks for latitude and longitude at 1º intervals and an index of localities.

On the reverse there are indexed street plans of central Nairobi and Dar-Es-Salaam, plus plans of central Kampala, Bujumbura and Kigali, all highlighting selected hotels and restaurants, shopping centres, parking, and numerous other places of interest and local facilities. Also included is an inset showing Zanzibar at a more detailed scale than on the main map.
