This map provides an uninterrupted view of the whole state, without any peripheral regions or islands tucked away in insets.
The fine cartography uses hill-shading to show the general relief, with spot heights for many peaks. Road detail distinguishes paved highways, gravel highways and "other roads", and intermediate driving distances on main routes are marked. Other communications marked are railways, ferry routes & the Itarod Trail. Many lakes and rivers are also shown. The Trans-Alaska Pipeline is marked and symbols depict airports, seaplane bases, State Parks and Marine Parks, State Critical Habitat Areas, State Game Refuges, ski areas, visitor centres and lighthouses. Coloured boundary lines show national parks, wildlife refuges, national forests, national petroleum reserves, military and indian reservations, state parks and forests, wilderness areas and administrative boroughs. These details are a little confusing in places and the text is quite small, but this is still an attractive and useful reference map.
Latitude and longitude lines are drawn at 2° intervals.
Indexed for towns and geographic features.
Produced in cooperation with the Alaska Geographic Society.
