A map of one of the most popular regions for walkers and 4x4 drivers in Iceland, including Landmannaleið, Fjallback syðra, the route to Lakagigar, and the "Laugavegur" route from Landmannalaugar to Þórsmork. The Mýrdalsjökull glacier lies entirely within the map, also the peaks Hekla and Lakir. Contours at 20m intervals and spot heights present the relief and various types of landscapes are distinguished: birch woodland, cultivated land and lava fields. Local roads and tracks show fords over rivers, and footpaths and bridleways are marked. Symbols depict isolated building and churches, airfields, emergency shelters, tourist huts, shelters, campsites, swimming pools, craters, hot springs, waterfalls, caves, etc. Latitude and longitude lines are drawn at 5' intervals.
On the reverse is a 1:50,000 map of Fimmvörðuháls and surroundings, including Þórsmörk, between Mýrdalsjökull and Eyjafjalljökull. In addition to the notes on local attractions there are also lovely small illustrations of wild birds of the region.
Map legend and all the notes include English.
This title is part of a series of detailed topographic maps of popular tourists and hiking areas of Iceland.
