France: Blay-Foldex Regional Atlases

Detailed atlases of administrative regions of France, with, as the publishers put it, “toutes les rues de toutes les communes de toute la région”. The atlases are printed versions of a car navigation system. The introductory section of each atlas shows the region on maps at approx. 1:113,000, which indicate the areas presented in the main section as street plans. The maps, which show the road and rail networks, have no topographic information beyond rivers and other waterways, plus colouring for forested areas. There is also no specific tourist information on landmarks, places of interest, etc.

The main section of each atlas contains street plan of all the main built up areas of the region. The plans indicate railway and metro stations, car parks, petrol stations, post offices, hospitals, places of worship, museums and theatres, sport facilities, etc. Each commune has a separate entry in an extensive street index. Map legend and all the instructions on how to use the atlas are in French only.

These atlases are designed for reference or commercial use where detailed presentation of local towns and villages is required and are not ideally suited for use as touring road atlases for holidays in France.
