Indexed, waterproof and tear-resistant map of Madeira with topographic and tourist information including hiking trails, published by Reise Know-How as part of their highly acclaimed World Mapping Project. The map is double-sided to provide the best balance between a good scale and a convenient size sheet.
The base map presents topography by altitude colouring with contours at 100m intervals, spot heights, mountain passes and names of mountain ranges, as well as showing the island’s system of levada irrigation channels. Numerous hiking trails are highlighted and national parks and protected areas are clearly marked. Road network includes unsurfaced roads and tracks, indicating locations of petrol stations.
Symbols highlight various places of interest, including churches and monasteries, monuments, campsites and hostels, viewpoints, beaches, golf courses, botanical gardens, etc. The map has a latitude and longitude grid at intervals of 5’, a somewhat faint UTM grid, and an extensive index of localities. Map legend includes English.
Separate insets show Ilha do Porto Santo, Ilhas Desertas, and the whole archipelago together.
”World Mapping Project” is an extensive series of maps at varying scales, aiming to provide coverage of countries and regions worldwide using clear, well presented cartography with both topographic and tourist information. Some titles in this series have been published in Britain by Rough Guides with the same original cartography and are listed on our website only under that imprint. However, if required, the original Reise Know-How editions can be ordered on request - please contact us by e-mail.
Sample of cartography:
Some elements of the cartography e.g. minor roads and contours are printed relatively faintly compared with other information such as major roads. Although clearly legible on the map, the lower contrast of these details has made them less obvious on the reproduction of the cartography presented here.
