One of the titles in a series of beautiful and informative maps of Finland’s most popular outdoor leisure areas with cartography of the country’s topographic survey. Excellent use of colours, shading and symbols provides a very detailed picture of the terrain and vegetation. Extensive overprint highlights routes for hiking, and/or other outdoor pursuits, a wide variety of accommodation, from hotels and holiday villages to Lapland tepees, food and fuel supplies, etc. The maps have a UTM grid and margin ticks for latitude and longitude. Map legends include English.
In this title: double-sided map of the Oulanka National Park and the surrounding area, just south of the Arctic Circle on Finland's eastern border. Contours are at 5m intervals, with colours and graphics indicating various types of landscape, e.g. bogs (impassable or easy to traverse), swamps, forest, arable land, boulder fields bare rocks, etc. An overprint highlights hiking trails, including the 80km Karhunkierros Trail and the 12km long Pieni Karhunkierros Trail. Also marked are routes for skiing, snowmobiles, mountain bikes, canoeing and kayaking, and nature trails. Symbols show various types of accommodation (hotels, holiday camps, campsites, huts, etc.), restaurants and tourist facilities, petrol stations, information offices, fishing spots, etc.
On the reverse are insets at 1:20,000 of Ruka wih the Rukatunturi - one of Finland's most popular tourist and ski centres, and of the Pieni Karhunierros trail from Juuma. The map has a UTM grid and latitude and longitude lines at 2' intervals. Map legend and brief notes include English. With its very attractive colouring and presentation, this is one of the most beautiful maps we stock.
PLEASE NOTE:
Since 2001 Finland’s survey organization has been publishing maps under an imprint name of Geniemap. They have now reverted back to their old name of Karttakeskus, but some titles are still available only as Geniemap.
