Large sheet, presenting the whole of the country on one side at a good scale of 1:1,750,000. The map has been prepared from the same data base as that published by the Rough Guides, differing mainly in the presentation of the topography: here with relief shading rather than elevation colouring. Names of numerous mountain ranges are given with spot heights and passes. Communications network includes unsurfaced secondary and minor roads, railways, and local airfields. Internal administrative boundaries are marked with names of some, but not all, the provinces. The map highlights the country’s numerous national parks and reserves, bird sanctuaries, botanical gardens, as well as other places of interest, including the UNESCO World Heritage sites, winelands, beaches, etc.

Latitude and longitude lines are drawn at 1° intervals. The legend is in 10 languages, including English. An extensive index printed on the reverse includes separate lists of national parks and wine growing areas. Information within Lesotho and Swaziland is the same as in South Africa.
