One on side is a coloured topographic map compiled from earlier DOS 610 series mapping and more recent Landsat and Shuttle Radar Topography Mission data. Relief is represented by contours and spot heights, while bathymetric tinting is applied to the surrounding sea area. Lakes, ice-free areas, moraine and Shackleton's overland route of May 1916 are indicated, and additional symbols denote research stations & disused whaling stations.
On the reverse is a satellite image map, mainly derived from Landsat data. Principal geographic features are named eg. glaciers and peaks. Spot heights, research stations, disused whaling stations, and Shackleton's overland route are marked but contours and bathymetry are omitted.
Lines of latitude and longitude are shown at 20' intervals on both maps.
