One of the titles in a series designed to highlight special AsF (Alpes sans Frontières) cross-border hiking routes, chosen by the French and Italian Alpine Clubs, produced jointly under the auspices of the European Union by the national survey organizations of France and Italy: Institut Géographique National, Istituto Geografico Militare, Club Alpin Français and Club Alpino Italiano.
Each title consists of a pocket-size guide and a separate fold-out map at 1:25,000. The guides contain descriptions of the routes, divided into stages. They also include descriptions of villages along the routes, listing accommodation and other facilities, plus details of all the mountain huts with opening times, capacity, etc. The maps have cartography of the topographic survey of the two countries. An overprint highlights the AsF routes and other mountain paths, as well as huts, recreational facilities, etc. Each map has a 1-km UTM grid. A list of GPS waypoints is included in the guide.
Each title was originally published in two versions: French/Italian or English/German. From the English/German versions, only the titles listed here remain in print, although stocks are very low of some of them. A few more titles are still available in the French/Italian version.
The series was originally intended to extend from the Mediterranean to Lake Geneva, but maps Nos.17 to 20, covering the French/Swiss border were never published and there no plans to have the series completed.
This title covers an area roughly from Morgex and La Salle in the north to Rhêmes-Notre-Dame in the south, and from Aosta in the east to Thovex in the west, approximately 30km east/west by 22km north/south. The length of the AsF routes varies from approx. 37km to 45km.
