One of the titles in a series of detailed, indexed road maps, published in co-operation with the Hellenic Army Geographical Service, the national survey organisation. Within Greece all place names are given in both Greek and Roman script. The maps present the terrain by contours with colour altitude tints. Road classification distinguishes between unsurfaced roads of good and poor quality. Toll roads and rest areas on motorways are indicated and intermediate driving distances given on main and secondary roads.
Tourist information includes scenic routes, archaeological sites, castles, churches and monasteries, campsites and mountain refuges, beaches, etc. The maps have margin ticks showing latitude and longitude in steps at intervals of 1°. Map legend includes English. Each title has a double index on the reverse, using both alphabets, and includes a selection of street plans highlighting accommodation, places of interest, etc.
In this title: street plans of Alexandroupolis, Komotoni and Xanthi. The map extends to cover most of the European part of Turkey, apart from the area between Edirne and Kirklareli and the Bulgarian border, providing excellent coverage of the Bosporus, Sea of Marmara, the Dardanelles, and the access to the archaeological site at Troy. An enlargement shows the environs of Istanbul in greater detail, including its airport and the bridges across the Bosporus. There is also a plan of the central and the old part of the city showing main streets, tram and metro lines, and historical sites.
