Get outdoors with the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG)

Now is the perfect time to see Britain in bloom and the world around us being reborn. Discovering Britain, the Society’s series of geographically-themed walks, trails and viewpoints, includes plenty of routes that show off the best of the season.

This month, why not try one of the following Discovering Britain walks:

City of Trees – Known for its history of steel manufacture, can a city with such a strong industrial identity really be one of the greenest in Europe? Find out on this 3.5 mile trail that explores how Sheffield’s hill rivers, parks and settlements all paint a picture of an eco-friendly city.

Making Connections – A short two and a half mile walk around Falkirk shows why the town is an integral part of the “Central Belt” connecting Edinburgh and Glasgow. Marvell at the skills of Roman Surveyors and find out why two canals snake across the landscape.

Worth its Salt and A Whale of a Tale – These two viewpoints showcase the variety of the Norfolk’s landscapes by exploring the heritage of farming and the ebb and flow of a costal tide.

There are over 350 activities to try – each one is self-guided and free. You can also follow Discovering Britain on Facebook and Instagram to keep up with new activities and tell the team what you think.

The Society’s full programme of events for the summer season is now available to view online. Members of the Society receive discounted entry to public events and membership is open to all. Find out how you can become a member.
