Military campaigns in and around Italy during WWII
Italy in World War II on a large, double-sided map at 1:600,000 showing various front lines, directions of main attacks by all combatant forces, locations and dates of important battles, airborne and seaborne landings, boundaries of various zones, etc.
The base map with the country’s present day road network is overprinted with information showing developments from various stages of the war, from the attack lines of the Italian forces against France and Yugoslavia between 1940 and 1942 to the different front lines charting the progress of the Allied forces after the Sicily landings in July 1943. The map shows locations of main battles, indicating their dates and the forces which took part in them, including Italian partisan units and groups allied to the RSI (Repubblica Sociale Italiana or the Saló Republic, set up by Mussolini after his recapture by the German). Symbols chart the progress of various parts of the Allied and German armies, show main costal defenses and locations of seaborne landings, etc.
The map also indicates the changes in the country’s borders, including the boundaries of the OZAV and OZAK zones set up by the Germans in Northern Italy following the country’s capitulation to the Allies, plus shows the main areas controlled by the partisan forces.
Map legend and captions to 21 wartime photographs include English. The map also includes notes on the country’s history during the war, in Italian only.
