North America: Tapestry of Time and Terrain Wall Map from the USGS provides a stunning, colouful picture of the North American continent, including Central America and the Caribbean (but without Greenland), with bright colours indicating the geology contrasting with black used of the surrounding seas or the Great Lakes.
Geological colouring is superimposed on a satellite image of the continent, with no place names or boundaries. The legend is provided by panels with colourful extracts and names of various eras of the world’s geochronology.
Also provided on this very large map (137 x 107cm - 4’6” x 3’6” approx.) are four smaller images of the continent showing Sedimentary, Volcanic, Plutonic and Metamorphic rocks. Brief notes, like the legend in English, Spanish and French, explain how the map was prepared.
The map, published by the USGS in conjunction with the Geological Survey of Canada and the Consejo de Recursos Minerales of Mexico and printed on high quality glossy paper, must be one of the most visually impressive titles in Stanfords’ large collection.
