A guide to some of the best mountain biking in Southern England, west of London. It contains 24 routes from 18 to 38km long, many of which can be linked to make much longer ridges. Each is described with directions and details of distance, grade of difficulty, refreshment stops and is accompanied by specifically designed mapping.
Vertebrate’s guide to mountain biking in parts of the south east of England covers 24 recommended mountain bike trails, routes and rides ranging from 18km to 38km. The routes themselves have been devised and tested by local riders to help you get the very best out of the trails of the Ridgeway and the Chilterns.

Each route is described with easy-to-follow instructions, information on difficulty, length, nearest refreshments (usually a recommended pub), altitude profile, and parking. The maps themselves are basic with the route in bold colouring, roads marked, with local facilities prominently highlighted. Limited terrain types are shown, such as forests and open fields.

There are optional routes given as well for each ride, and the guide contains tips on safety, bike-riding day or night, and has a special section with the top ten climbs and descents, and suggestions for ‘Mega Rides’ with further information about finding places to eat, drink and stay.
