A thematic fold-out map of Ukraine, with Ukrainian text only, illustrating the extensive memorials and monuments erected in commemoration of the victims of the 1932-1933 famine, including the monuments that were in place before the collapse of the USSR and encompassing coverage of famine memorial sights within the borders of current day Ukraine, including former parts of eastern Poland. As well as showing the locations of mass starvation sites, the map of Ukraine shows, of secondary prominence, the modern day road and rail network and the 1930’s Ukrainian border limits, as well as substantial range of cities, large and small towns. Insets illustrate the direction and destination of troops into Ukraine from surrounding Soviet republics and a colour coded map indicating the areas of unrest/disturbances, per 100,000 of the population, in 1930. On the back of the map is a narrative of the background reasons to the famine and the official processes which led to the starvation genocide in Ukraine and its border areas between 1932 and 1933, as well as photographs of present day monuments to the victims and historical images, which also surround the main map. Place names and text on this map are in Ukrainian only.
