The famous swimming Ladies of Hampstead ponds bring us their favourite walks with a dip in London and south east England, all accessible by train. Featuring secret lakes, river meadows and sandy beaches, this is the perfect way to escape this summer, and leave the car at home.
The Kenwood Ladies’ Pond Association (created in 1985 to represents users of the Ladies’ Pond on Hampstead Heath) proudly presents their Wild Swimming Walks guide, where the ladies share their favourite "walks with a dip ". The book leads you to 28 adventures into the beautiful countryside of southern England.
An inspiring forward section precedes the detailed walks and explains the history of the pond and the KLP, as well as water safety, equipment, weather/season and swimming. Each walk features an introduction to the type of the walk and the swim, and to the local history and sites. An information table summarises the excursion main facts, with distance and approximate time of the walk, start and end point, main railway station and connection, the area’s specific swimming facts, local places of interests and refreshments. Detailed directions describe the walk from the main railway station, and are accompanied by a sketch map and colour photographs. All the walking routes are accessible by train and suggestions for weekends are also included.
