Kate Rawles, 8,000 Miles in the Andes by Bamboo Bike

Time: 1:00pm

About the Talk:

Pedalling hard for thirteen months, eco adventurer Kate Rawles cycled the length of the Andes on an eccentric bicycle she built herself. En route, she witnesses the devastation of goldmining and oil drilling but finds hope in the incredible people working to regenerate habitats and communities. As she reaches the 'end of the world', she realises that to tackle biodiversity loss we all have a role to play.

Kate Rawles is a writer, cyclist and former university lecturer in environmental philosophy who uses adventurous journeys to raise awareness about environmental challenges. She writes for a range of publications, is a mountain and sea kayaking leader and a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.

Nick Butter, Running Britain

Time: 12:00pm

About the Talk:

In the spring of 2021, as the UK's latest pandemic lockdowns were lifted, Nick Butter set out from the Eden Project to become the fastest person to cover every mile of Britain's mainland coastline on foot. Battling the most extreme winds Britain had seen in 100 years, days of torrential rain and the unrelenting hills of Western Scotland and Cornwall, Nick suffered two broken bones and countless injuries, whilst taking on two marathons a day, every day, for 100 days. He talks to Andrew Dickens about his experiences, and what drove him on.

Nick Butter is an endurance runner, adventurer and motivational speaker. In 2019, Nick Butter became the first person to run a marathon in every country on Earth and wrote a book about his experience titled Running the World. Nick has various record-breaking adventures to complete, including a circumnavigation of Bali and Iceland and he’ll also be running New Zealand (North to South).
