Alpine cartographic specialists, 2theAlps, are pleased to announce the publication of 'Ski Rail Maps of the Alps' - a double-sided map focusing on train travel to and through Europe's number one winter sports destination.

The first of the two maps, 'Reaching the Alps by Train', is a schematic simplification of the Alpine rail network, a little like the London Underground map, showing all the railways clearly and how they connect with over 200 resorts. Most have railway stations but for those which don't, a bus route is shown to the nearest one. The map includes sleeper train routes to the Alps from the UK, The Netherlands, Belgium and France, including the latest services added this autumn such as the European Sleeper route from Brussels to Milan. The map also shows the Eurostar route from the UK to the French Alps via Lille, and the lesser-known direct Eurostar from Amsterdam which also runs to Bourg St Maurice. In addition, ferry routes across the Channel and North Sea are included with connections to rail services at both ends - this can be both an adventurous and surprisingly affordable option for travel to the Alps, particularly at short notice (winter is low season on the ferries).

The second map, 'Ski Resorts by Train' shows the rail network on a more conventional mapping background including rivers, lakes and mountains, and features over 600 resorts with the rail-accessible ones highlighted. The two maps are printed on a single sheet which folds down into a traveller friendly, pocket-size shape. They provide an excellent planning tool in advance of any trip, and are also a fascinating reference during journeys to and within the mountains.
